Yay or Nay?: "Fix Her Up" by Tessa Bailey

I am making a come back! And I'm using a crappy, indulgent romance to do it! I've been quite busy lately with work (those of you in corporate, the words "year end" will bring some pictures of long sleepless nights to mind) and I didn't have much time to read. But I did let some comforting adult romances accompany me in my work in the form of audiobooks! This was one of them and well... I have some interesting thoughts.

THE STORY
Georgette Castle’s family runs the best home renovation business in town, but she picked balloons instead of blueprints and they haven’t taken her seriously since. Frankly, she’s over it. Georgie loves planning children’s birthday parties and making people laugh, just not at her own expense. She’s determined to fix herself up into a Woman of the World... whatever that means.

Phase one: new framework for her business (a website from this decade, perhaps?)

Phase two: a gut-reno on her wardrobe (fyi, leggings are pants.)

Phase three: updates to her exterior (do people still wax?)

Phase four: put herself on the market (and stop crushing on Travis Ford!)

Living her best life means facing the truth: Georgie hasn’t been on a date since, well, ever. Nobody’s asking the town clown out for a night of hot sex, that’s for sure. Maybe if people think she’s having a steamy love affair, they’ll acknowledge she’s not just the “little sister” who paints faces for a living. And who better to help demolish that image than the resident sports star and tabloid favorite?

Travis Ford was major league baseball’s hottest rookie when an injury ended his career. Now he’s flipping houses to keep busy and trying to forget his glory days. But he can’t even cross the street without someone recapping his greatest hits. Or making a joke about his… bat. And then there's Georgie, his best friend’s sister, who is not a kid anymore. When she proposes a wild scheme—that they pretend to date, to shock her family and help him land a new job—he agrees. What’s the harm? It’s not like it’s real. But the girl Travis used to tease is now a funny, full-of-life woman and there’s nothing fake about how much he wants her...

MY THOUGHTS

I don't really know where to start. On the one hand, it was exactly what I needed. It was fun and steamy and exactly what I like to read that's in my comfort zone. So, the entertainment factor was there. But on the other hand, this book was crappy. It read kind of like a better edited Wattpad fanfic. I also had many problems with the sex scenes. Let me list my problems with the sex scenes:

  1. Fucking Travis kept calling Georgie "Babygirl" every five seconds. I HATED THAT! It was way too frequent to the point of being irritating, and it just sounds so demeaning to me! Also, I have to be honest and admit that I forgot Georgie's name, and had to add it to the previous sentence when looking up the synopsis. Old age sucks.
  2. All he had on his mind was sex. Like every time he saw her do normal things, like carrying the groceries, he'd be thinking about his dick getting hard, and how tight her cunt is, and how sexy her thighs look. Is he a 13year old boy who just discovered his dad's secret stack of Playboys?
  3. He used his erect penis to whip her ass. Is that even possible?
  4. The night before they were to have sex for the first time, he literally said this, "Get ready to meet your God". And by God, he meant his dick. Ummmm okay. If God exists, I feel very bad for him, gods shouldn't be compared to average male appendages.

As you can see, I have many questions about this book. And many issues. And despite all this, I still had a great time listening. Such a great time, that I bought the bloody sequel the last time I was at Walmart. So, you'll have another WTF review coming soon!!!

If you read this book, please let us know what you thought in the comments!

Until next time!
Olga

PS. Does anyone feel that listening to books as audiobooks makes some characters sound more pervy than they would sound had you read a paper version? This book made me think this many times.
