Wellness Corner: How to Get Healthy in 2019









I set many resolutions for myself for this year - and clearly not neglecting this blog was not one of them so that's why this is coming to you so late :-p But whatever month it happens to be, it's always a good time to incorporate some healthy habits into you life so you can live better and longer and feel like a superhuman everyday. The below are tips on the different practices that I have been (or been trying) to stick to in the past:

1. Maintaining a set sleep schedule
Going to bed and waking up at the same time everyday, not only makes you well-rested, but also helps your brain function better, and makes you feel like you're more in control of your life. I found it very good for my productivity too, cause I didn't waste time laying in bed the whole morning.

2. Prepare meals in advance
Meal prepping is a such a trend now, for a good reason - it's freaking awesome. You prepare your meals for the whole week in one day, meaning that you don't have to spend hours cooking which is annoying (unless cooking and washing dishes is something you enjoy). You save money because you don't feel the need to go out to eat because you have prepared food already, and you also don't need to snack on random crap in your house when you’re hungry! I am getting so excited about this cause meal prep is awesome!!! If you don't know where to start, I'll link down some resources below:

3. Go on walks frequently
Sedentary lifestyle is not optimal for health, we can all agree on that. So incorporating more walking into your life can help you control weight, improve your mood, and reduce risk of many health conditions. And you don't have to follow the ubiquitous 10,000 steps a day figure if you don't want! Meghan and I were discussing recently how that figure is arbitrary and doesn't apply to everyone. If you don't have much time in your schedule to incorporate this, I have some suggestions for you
• Take stairs instead of an elevator
• If you commute to school or work, park further away from the building, or get off a few stops sooner, and walk the rest of the way
• Walk around your living room from time to time when you’re watching TV

4. Eat at least a portion of vegetables every day
This might be difficult if you never eat them, but it's worth it for the nutrients! Which they have a lot of, and they absorb themselves a lot easier into the body than those in multivitamins.
They will also make you feel satiated, using less calories than carbs or sweets!

5. Drink more water
I don't think there's a single process in the body for which water isn't good
