Our Spotify Playlist Picks! (Audio)

So this week we decided to do a little something different. One of the things that Olga and I have been doing since on quarantine is using our Spotify accounts to the fullest advantage. Essentially, one of the things we’ve been doing to keep spirits up is to send each other playlists of music that the other designs. These playlists can consist of any genre of music, but what we’ve been doing is usually pairing certain songs up with certain themes (a la my love of creating beach or lakeside playlists) or for certain shows or ships we’ve been really into (a la Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and Phrack— Olga made a killer playlist here that we’ll list that really encompasses them).

So, we wanted to share our playlists with you guys! Great for reading, listening to in the background, or just to enjoy and discover new music while we’re still on lockdown, we present to you our Spotify Playlist Picks!

If you like or are interested in a particular playlist, just click on the title and it’ll link you to the playlist in question!

Meghan: This was one of the first playlists I ended up making. I really wanted to encompass the feelings associated with all three instances in the title— a very chill, relaxed—but still intense kind of calm where you were aware of the music and your surroundings. A type of playlist in other words, that could be experienced in the moment, and provide that feeling when you’re hanging by the lake watching the sunset, or sitting outside and sipping a cup of tea on a lazy Sunday with nothing better to do. I know a lot of these songs have given me that “vibe” for me.

Featured Songs: Holocene— Bon Iver, Trouble— Cage the Elephant, Hold Back the River— James Bay, Wagon Wheel— Old Crow Medicine Show, Take Me Home, Country Roads— John Denver, and Wonderwall— Oasis.

Meghan: This was a trickier playlist to make. That said, I made this in the middle of the quarantine when we didn’t know much about when this might be over. We were just locked “down”. With that in mind, I wanted to create the illusion that movies often do towards the end with soundtracks where you’re almost done or at the end of the film and the music becomes “inspiring” or gives that vibe that “things are going to be okay and alright”. The main character is driving their car into the great sunset and smiling, things are turning their way. Or they’re packing up their old life to finally pursue the life they’d fought so hard for. I don’t know any other way to explain it, but I’m sure this is something you’ve noticed in movies. Quarantine sanity walks helped to really inspire this one and think which tracks would be good. Also a lot of nostalgia songs for me and Olga that brought us back to our university days!

Featured Songs: All Summer Long— Kid Rock, Dirty Paws— Of Monsters and Men, Carry on Wayward Son— Kansas, Don’t Stop Believing— Journey, and All These Things That I Have Done— The Killers

Meghan: This was a favourite playlist of mine to make. Very simply, it’s the title. All things moon, star, or planet related. A playlist that is about dancing in the moonlight, or songs that I think would fit for someone listening to them under the moonlight— it has that unexplainable vibe. Evidently, a lot of them are lunar/space themed!

Featured Songs: Dancing in the Moonlight— King Harvest, Rhiannon- Fleetwood Mac, The Night We Met— Lord Huron, Night Moves— Bob Seger, and The Wolf— Mumford and Sons

Playlist 4: Unleash the Power Within

Olga: I made this playlist for Meghan and I, to get hype and super energized for the busy times ahead of us in our respectful jobs. I included a mixture of two types of songs 1. Hard rock and metal that I used to listen to in the gym, and 2. Peppy motivational songs that make me more optimistic and empowered.

Featured Songs: To Hell and Back - Sabaton, It Ends Tonight - All American Rejects, Uprising - Muse, Cape of Our Hero - Volbeat, The Light - Disturbed

Playlist 5: At the Edge of the World, The Sun is Shining Bright

Olga: I was thinking about those moments during travels, where you are simply amazed by the strange wonders of the world. I wanted a musical interpretation of the happiness that comes with experiencing the journey, and the wonders one witnesses on the way to the destination.

Featured Songs: Send Me on My Way - Rusted Root, Barcelona - Ed Sheeran, That's Amore - Dean Martin, The One - Kodaline, Someone New - Hozier

Playlist 6: Yearning for the Heart of the Ocean

Olga: There it is! The #Phrack playlist that Meghan mentioned above!!! Since my obsession with Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries is still on, I was so inspired to make a related playlist. I was thinking about the palm reading scene (those of you watched, you know which one. And you will understand the title of the playlist) and I wanted to get the tone of longing for love and feeling connected to someone spiritually whom you've never even met.

Featured Songs: Say You Love Me - Jessie Ware, Just Breathe - Pearl Jam, Wait by the River - Lord Huron. Who Do You Love - Marianas Trench. Grande Amore - Il Volo
