Hello World!

Welcome to Our Blog!

 As the title says...

Welcome to our blog! We're Meghan and Olga, and we're the Scrutinizing Masochists (in the reviewing sense of the word). We hope you like it here, where it's nice, warm, and toasty, and of course, we can talk about all things fictional! Stories, films, games, the works! So grab a blanket, some tea, some junk food of your choice, and let's get down to business!

Some Background on Us!

This idea came about, mainly, as a project we've both wanted to do for a while and one that Olga partially inspired. She had given me the gift of reviewing one of my favourite books (Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush Hush), and the rest is history! We have a lot of opinions on the stories we like...and dislike, so we decided to make a space where we can both fangirl (literally), vent, and joke about the things we love (and hate!) to review. We don't really want to restrict ourselves to anything concrete, like specifically novels, movies, or games, but we'd like to cover whatever seems to come our way.

Both of us are undergraduate students, albeit different faculties. Olga, (I know) will be a wonderful accountant, and I, hopefully, one day an author (I'm an English major specializing in Literature and Rhetorical Studies). But right now, I think I'll end up moving in with Olga! (haha)

To get to know a little about us, we wanted to share with you all "10 Facts About Us":

10 Facts About Meghan

  1. I'm left-handed (scissors and old-school desks are my mortal enemy)
  2. I'm forever in love with hard-rock, classic-rock, alternative, and metal music. Seriously, it's on my bucket list to see Alice Cooper or AC/DC live in concert. Also forever a Klokateer (if you know where this is from, you'll get that reference!)
  3. I've been to Europe three times, and I'll never be tired of it. Highlighted places of interest are Venice, London, Iceland, Monte Carlo, and of course the entire country of Germany, where I have some family.
  4. I have two cats. One black cat and one black and white. Their names are Snoopy and Spooky, but I end up calling them 'Noopy and 'Pooky (because it sounds cuter), but I think it creeps my friends out!
  5. My favourite food in the world is pizza and Jalapeno Cheetos. Legit. Best thing ever.
  6. I have a thing for rings. Okay, let me explain that. I love to wear rings all the time, I don't know why, but I don't like to wear any other jewelry but rings.
  7. I love watching anime and reading manga. Favourite series are Black Butler, WorldEnd, Gintama, and One Punch Man. Favourite manga is, of course, Black Butler, and One Punch Man, but I've also taken to Jellyfish Princess, Twinkle Stars by Natsuki Takaya, and Demon Prince of Momochi House. I have a thing for reverse harem manga (idk why either).
  8. My guilty pleasure is otome games. Recently I've been playing them now more than ever, and I want to get around to reviewing a game as soon as I can.
  9. My Favourite Song: Oh, this is always a difficult question for me! I have literally so many good songs that I love to listen to, but my favourite is: Not Good Enough for the Truth in Cliché by Escape the Fate. Seriously, it brings back awesome memories from my days in art class in high school (the only true class I liked, other than Creative Writing).
  10. My astrology sign is Sagittarius, i.e. the best sign!

Oh, and this gif makes me laugh uncontrollably.

10 Facts About Olga

  1.  So this lovely joke Meghan made about me bring an accountant earlier, is not exactly true :-p I am a student of accounting, but I aim to work in Human Resources in the future. I'm currently interning in that field and absolutely love it. So far I have managed to learn to use the fancy coffee machine in the kitchen and to take over my manager's desk. World domination is next on the docket muahahahahaha.
  2.  I am a proud Pole and proud European. I grew up in a tiny Polish town squished between the Slovak and Ukrainian borders. Catching tiny frogs in the river was a common summer activity for me. I still visit Poland frequently, and Krakow is my favourite city of all time (too bad Meghan hasn't managed to visit tsk tsk).
  3. Health and fitness is an obsession of mine. I spend my evenings lifting, and my days calculating the amounts of protein in my food (this is not weird lol)
  4. I read a lot my entire life. Even when I was so small that I couldn't read I still just flipped through picture books all the time. My favourites are Harry Potter, the Book Thief, anything by Sarah Dessen, Six of Crows, V for Vendetta, and so many more it'd take me ages to type it all.
  5. Coffee. Is. My. Life. There are days where I'll have 3 cups or more AND ILL BE SO FUCKING HYPER ILL BE JUMPING AND TYPING IN ALL CAPS ALL THE FREAKING AND IT FEEL SSO AWESOME EVEN THOUGH ONE DAY IT MIGHT KILL ME CAUSE CAFFEINE!!!!!!
  6. I am basically a 21-year-old grandma. I knit, cross-stitch, go to bed early, bake cookies, watch Jeopardy(and consider it one of my favourite shows), tell stories that start with "Back when I was a young girl", complain about "the kids these days", and so on.
  7. I love food.  I will try almost anything, and I have so many favourites I literally cannot make up my mind when ordering in a restaurant.
  8. I have an obsession with Ireland ever since doing a big project on it in high school. Visiting it is very high on my bucket list, and I would love to find a four-leaf clover there.
  9. I swear a lot, have a dirty mind, and almost no filter due to my being brutally honest. You can safely assume that any part of this blog that could be considered NSFW, was written by me.
  10. My guilty pleasures include listening to One Direction, and playing drinking games while watching The Bachelor :-)

Honorary Fact #11 - Scorpios would totally beat Sagittarians in fight 😝

Our Reviews!

So it is fitting that we started this in the New Year so that we can get a fresh start on everything. Our first review we'll post in a week or so, but the schedule we're looking at is an upload once a month. Both of us will either do a joint review on the same topic or each upload a review of our own on a different fictional thing.

For this month though, we've decided to jointly review a movie, specifically, in anticipation of its final sequel's release in February, we're going to review...

     Fifty Shades of Grey!

Yeah...don't worry we had a similar reaction.

We will upload the review within the week or the next, and then we will work on our February reviews. Until then...Hello World!
